Boumsong is best remembered in England for a calamitous spell with Newcastle, however since leaving St James' Park he has managed to rebuild his career with Juventus and Lyon.
The centre-half started his career with Le Harve before he moved to Auxerre, where he created a reputation for himself as one of Europe's most promising defenders.
Boumsong made the move from France to Rangers in the summer of 2004. His stay at Ibrox, however, was a short one as halfway through his first season with club he moved south of the border to join Newcastle.
The defender's spell at the Magpies was characterised by a number of high profile incidents and he was sold to Juventus in August 2006. Boumsong was then on the move again to join his current club Lyon this January.
He made the move back to France to help his chances of being selected by Les Bleus for this summer's tournament and, with his inclusion in Raymond Domenech's squad; it appears the switch has been a success.
