The France skipper, despite inconsistent performances for Inter Milan recently, is a key member of Raymond Domenech's squad for Euro 2008.
Vieira has failed to recapture the dominating form he showed for Arsenal during his time in Serie A over the last three seasons and he has been hit by numerous injuries.
However Vieira still remains a key part of France's team and he will provide the platform for Les Bleus' flair players to cause havoc in Austria and Switzerland.
The midfield talisman has already tasted success in the European Championships in 2000 and he knows this could be his last chance to make an impact on the international stage.
With several promising French central-midfielders emerging, such as Portsmouth's Lassana Diarra and AC Milan's new signing Mathieu Flamini, it won't be long before Vieira's place is under serious threat.
Vieira, though, is still for the time being one of the heartbeats of the France side and he will have a key role to play in the summer.
