Diarra is finally starting to show the form which has seen him labelled one of Europe's most promising midfield players.
After frustrating spells with Chelsea and Arsenal, Diarra is now a vital component in Harry Redknapp's rapidly improving Portsmouth side.
Diarra was one of the best players on the pitch during Pompey's 1-0 victory over Cardiff in the FA Cup final and, despite only being at Fratton Park for a matter of months, he has already been linked with a move to one of European football's heavyweights.
The hardworking midfielder has also started to force his way into the reckoning for a spot in France's first XI. Having featured in seven of Les Bleus' qualifying matches for this tournament he is pushing Patrick Vieira and Claude Makelele for a first-team spot.
Diarra joined Portsmouth in January to cement his place in Raymond Domenech's squad and his recent form has done more than that.
By the time we get to the World Cup in 2010 Diarra will be a key part of the France side; however it remains to be seen what role he will play in Austria and Switzerland.
